About the watch

The original limited-edition Dalton J35 Chronograph 41 sold out quickly and has since become one of the most sought-after timepieces from MALM. We are thrilled to reintroduce this iconic watch with a fresh, updated design.

As a tribute to the legendary fighter jet that inspired it—the J35 Draken—the Swedish flag now proudly appears on the dial, alongside a subtle silhouette on the crown. The deep green dial and bezel pay homage to the iconic camouflage often seen on Swedish military aircraft.

Designed with precision, the watch draws inspiration from the J35 Draken’s cockpit instruments and details. The minute and hour hands combine classic sword-style shapes with a semi-skeletonized design. The chronograph’s center-positioned second hand features a silhouette of the J35 Draken, while the distinctive Air Force emblem, worn by Swedish fighter pilots, is subtly placed at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. The subdials, positioned at the
upper, left, and lower sections of the dial, echo the gauges found in the Draken’s cockpit.

The pushers and crown guards take cues from the aircraft’s air intakes and aerodynamic contours, while the texture on the bezel and buttons mirrors the grip surfaces and control sticks within the cockpit. Every number, hand, and index on the dial has been meticulously hand-drawn after studying the flight instruments of this historic fighter jet.

The historic J35 Draken ("KITE")

By the 1950s, Sweden faced a growing need for a high-speed interceptor that could counter the rising threat of nuclear-armed bombers. The demands were high—the aircraft had to achieve exceptional speed, superior climb performance, and long-range capabilities. It also needed to carry a full suite of weaponry and be equipped with radar. The answer was the J35 Draken (Swedish for the word “Kite”).

First taking flight in 1955, the Draken officially entered service five years later. Its unique double-delta wing design and slender fuselage gave it outstanding flight characteristics at both high and low speeds. Originally designed as a high-altitude interceptor, the J35 Draken proved to be far more versatile than expected, leading to the development of a reconnaissance variant and a two-seat trainer version.

A total of 644 Drakens were produced, serving in four different air forces. Sweden officially retired the J35 Draken in 1998, but it wasn’t until 2005 that the last operational unit, serving in Austria, was finally decommissioned.

When using your MALM watch, the watch will be exposed to different types of stresses and strains. Like many other advanced watches and gauges, a very large number of components share a very limited amount of space and like other valuable items you should treat your MALM watch with great care. It is important that you do not expose the watch to unnecessary impacts, chemicals, solvents, hazardous gases, magnetic fields or very cold or hot environments.

The timepiece should be serviced and maintained regularly to work properly. Such services should be performed by MALM or a professional watchmaker for warranty terms to apply. We offer many service options for your watch, from repairing and replacing worn components, pressure testing, resealing, cleaning to polishing, engraving and change dials and more.

The watch comes in an exclusive, custom made wooden watch box with premium, suede interior. It both protects the watch and offers a perfect display. Inside the box you will also find:

- Strap tool
- Warranty & Certificate of Authenticity card
- Manual
