About DALTON J35

The Swedish J35 Draken (Swedish for “the kite”) entered service in 1960 after the increasing need of an aircraft that could and intercept the new threats. Initially designed as a high speed and altitude fighter jet, equipped with radar and all necessary weaponry, the J35 proved to have many areas of expertise. The special construction of a small body and double delta wing, hence its name, made it efficient in both high and lower speed and on low altitudes as well. Soon a reconnaissance version and a two seated school version was also developed. The J35 Draken served in four different air forces in a total of 46 years. The last J35 in military service was retired in 2005 in Austria.

The Dalton J35 Chronograph 41 has been developed by studying the various gauges and instruments in the cockpit of the historical Swedish fighter jet J35 Draken. New for this Dalton is the placement of the sub dials, located in the top, left and bottom and that are inspired by the gauges in the J35. The center positioned second hand has a silhouette of the J35. The silhoutte of the shield used by pilots of the Swedish Air Force is located in the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. The hands and indices have been applied with yellow/orange vintage lume. The numbers have been designed by MALM to resemble the design of the numbers in the cockpit.

The watch runs on a movement from Seiko called VK67 which is a combination of modern quartz technology and traditional mechanical engineering. Hour- minute and second hands runs on battery and the chronograph runs on the mechanical parts with a 1/5 second sweeping hand. This hybrid movement makes the Dalton watch a very reliable, accurate and durable wrist watch. The top surface of the sapphire crystal is treated with a coating protecting it from stains and fingerprints. The bottom surface of the crystal has a double anti-reflective coating to create the best possible visibilty. The watch has a water resistancy of 10 atm / 100 meters with a screwed down crown.

The left subdial shows elapsed minutes and is synchronized with the center-positioned second hand showing elapsed seconds. The lower subdial shows live seconds and the right subdial the 24 hours of the day.

When using your MALM watch, the watch will be exposed to different types of stresses and strains. Like many other advanced watches and gauges, a very large number of components share a very limited amount of space and like other valuable items you should treat your MALM watch with great care. It is important that you do not expose the watch to unnecessary impacts, chemicals, solvents, hazardous gases, magnetic fields or very cold or hot environments.

The timepiece should be serviced and maintained regularly to work properly. Such services should be performed by MALM or a professional watchmaker for warranty terms to apply. We offer many service options for your watch, from repairing and replacing worn components, pressure testing, resealing, cleaning to polishing, engraving and change dials and more.
