About Catalina

Catalina is a Swedish pilot's watch named after the Consolidated PBY Catalina seaplane, known within the Swedish Air Force as TP47, which was shot down on June 16, 1952 by a Soviet MiG-15 when it was scouting for the missing DC-3.

The watch case is made of 316L stainless steel with black DLC treatment. The shape of the case mixes both soft and sharp details that give the watch a lively and exclusive expression. The polished surfaces of the lugs run on top of the watch's crown guards, which enclose and protect the screw-down crown. The crown and buttons have been given a light-lined grip surface that is typical of various details in the cockpit.

The watch's turning ring is cast in stainless steel to withstand tougher use and its rough grip surface makes the turning ring easy to grip, even with gloves. The bottom and top of the sapphire crystal are symmetrically curved and treated to resist reflections and fingerprints.

The clock's dial has softly shaped, raised indices in steel. Minute, hour hands and indices have been filled with a luminous mass, superluminova C1 which is white in daylight and glows with a greenish color in the dark. The hands and font of the subdials have been taken from the Catalina's cockpit gauges and create a sharp and elegant contrast against the black background. The subdials are marked with the text "MIN." and "HOUR.", which stand for MINUTES and HOURS, and which were typically printed on the gauges in the cockpit of older aircraft. The watch's minute and hour hands have been inspired by classic diving watches, which reinforces the feeling that this is a watch for both land and sea - just like the seaplane Catalina.

Seiko VK64, a so-called hybrid movement that combines quartz technology (battery) with traditional mechanical technology. The watch runs on battery while the chronograph (timekeeping function) runs on mechanical technology with a sweeping second hand. The movement makes the watch a reliable, accurate and durable utility watch that is easy to maintain.

Battery life approx. 3 years.
