ABOUT Catalina Bronze

The Catalina Bronze Swiss Automatic 43 is long awaited successor to the Catalina Bronze Aeronautical Chronograph 41, introduced in 2020 and has been sold out since. Like its predecessor, the 2023 Catalina Bronze will be released as a limited edition timepiece. A total of 300 watches will be manufactured with a guilloche pattern in the dial, available in two colour options of 150 pieces each.

The new Catalina Bronze Swiss Automatic 43 bears the same resemblance as the predecessor. The bezel is made of solid bronze CuSn8 with raised, polished, numerals and stamped minute markers. Just like classic diver watches, the bezel rotates counterclockwise in 120 steps and with a rough, easy to use, grip surface.

The keen-eyed observer will notice a more rounded and wider case than the original Catalina. The polished surfaces on the top side of the case, from the lugs and across the crown guards, creates a beautiful contrast to the otherwise satin brushed case. The 43 mm diameter case is proper and allround.

The purpose of the Catalina collection is to find the balance between elements of aviation
with the sea and create a watch made suited both in the air and on the waters – just like the amphibious Catalina.

Background

The Catalina-collection is inspired by the amphibious aircraft, Consolidated PBY Catalina known as TP 47 in the Swedish Air Force. June 16th, 1952, the TP 47 Catalina was involved in the search and rescue operation for the missing DC-3, shot down by a Soviet fighter aircraft. During the search the Catalina was attacked by Soviet fighters as well and forced to make an emergency landing and shortly thereafter sunk in the ocean. The crew on the Catalina survived the encounter. This triggered a diplomatic Cold War crisis, known as the Catalina Affair.

Using Bronze as a material is also in line with finding a beautiful hybrid watch between details from the marine and the aviation. When used over time, the Bronze gets a layer of patina that makes each watch unique while remaining a rough and durable material. You can wash your watch from time to time if you wish to maintain its original appearance, or you just let the patina take over.

When using your MALM watch, the watch will be exposed to different types of stresses and strains. Like many other advanced watches and gauges, a very large number of components share a very limited amount of space and like other valuable items you should treat your MALM watch with great care. It is important that you do not expose the watch to unnecessary impacts, chemicals, solvents, hazardous gases, magnetic fields or very cold or hot environments.

The timepiece should be serviced and maintained regularly to work properly. Such services should be performed by MALM or a professional watchmaker for warranty terms to apply. We offer many service options for your watch, from repairing and replacing worn components, pressure testing, resealing, cleaning to polishing, engraving and change dials and more.

Bronze will get a natural patina over time. This is because the material is oxidizing rather quickly when worn. The patina gives your watch a unique appearance. If you don't want your watch to change over time you can regularly wash it with specific soaps and cloths for bronze jewelry and watches.

The watch comes in an exclusive, custom made wooden watch box with premium, suede interior. It both protects the watch and offers a perfect display. Inside the box you will also find:

- Strap tool
- Warranty & Certificate of Authenticity card
- Manual
- Watch cloth
